FREMONT — An hours-long standoff at the Mission Peak Lodge in Fremont ended late Friday afternoon in the arrests of two suspects believe to be armed, authorities said.
The standoff stemmed from a stolen vehicle investigation earlier in the day. Fremont police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques said officers made contact with a person in the parking lot of the motel at 43643 Mission Blvd. who was associated with the car in question.
The person tossed a backpack containing a handgun and was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and in connection with the stolen vehicle, according to Bosques.
Bosques said additional information was developed that led authorities to focus on a room at the motel where two other suspects had barricaded themselves. They were believed to have several weapons.
The Fremont police SWAT Team was dispatched to the scene. The suspects initially refused all requests to exit the room but finally relented about 5:30 p.m. and were arrested.
Additional details about the case were not immediately available.
Mission Boulevard was closed between Anza and Pine streets during the standoff. The boulevard is busy, especially on Fridays as motorists use it to bypass Interstate 680.
