OAKLAND — A man was in critical condition Thursday after he was shot multiple times Wednesday night in a parking lot near the Oakland Estuary, authorities said.

The name of the 22-year-old man, who police were told was a Stockton resident, was not released.

The shooting happened about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday in the parking lot in the 2000 block of Embarcadero in the Brooklyn Basin area.

Authorities said the man was staying at a nearby motel but for still unknown reasons had parked in the lot, which is a few blocks from the motel.

While he was in his vehicle someone shot him multiple times from outside, authorities said. The shooter fled before police arrived and the victim was taken to a hospital.

Police are trying to determine a motive for the shooting and identify the suspect.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $5,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the suspect.  Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3426 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
