OAKLAND — A man shot while driving his car in East Oakland Monday afternoon died from his wounds Friday morning, authorities said.

Police identified him as Charleston Turner, 22, of Oakland.

Turner was found shot about 1:35 p.m. Monday inside his vehicle after it crashed into a fire hydrant at 60th Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard. He was taken to Highland Hospital where he died at 8 a.m. Friday, authorities said.

Investigators believe Turner was shot by someone from outside the vehicle near where he crashed.

A motive has not been released and no arrests have been made.

The killing is the city’s first homicide of 2019.  Last year at this time police had investigated three homicides in Oakland.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the killer.  Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3821 or 510-238-7950 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
