MARTINEZ — A motorcyclist initially stopped for an equipment violation Sunday night led police on an almost 20-mile chase before crashing in Orinda, authorities said Monday.

Police identified the man as Patrick Miloradovitch, 41, of Concord.

About 9:55 p.m. Sunday, a police officer tried to stop Miloradovitch for an equipment violation on his Yamaha motorcycle on Alhambra Avenue at Highway 4, Martinez Sgt. Kevin Busciglio said.

Instead, Miloradovitch drove onto the freeway and led the officer on a chase onto Interstate 680 and Highway 24 before exiting on Fish Ranch Road in the Orinda area and crashing in the area of Fish Ranch and Old Tunnel Road, authorities said.

It was not clear why he initially fled,  but he was found to have illegal brass knuckles in his possession, police said. He refused medical treatment.

He was arrested on suspicion of evading a police officer and possession of a prohibited weapon, and was booked at the Martinez Detention Facility, authorities said.
