ORINDA — A 22-year-old Pittsburg man died early Monday from injuries suffered Sunday night when his car crashed on Highway 24 and he was ejected from the vehicle, the California Highway Patrol said.
He was identified by the Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office as Bobby Jones.
The wreck happened at 11:46 p.m. Sunday on westbound Highway 24 just west of St. Stephens Drive.
Authorities said Jones was driving a Kia Spectra sedan that for still unknown reasons veered to the right and off the roadway, striking an electrical box and chain link fence, causing the car to overturn and the man to be thrown out.
He was taken to John Muir Medical Center, where he died early Monday.
The wreck remains under investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed what happened is asked to call the CHP Contra Costa office in Martinez at 925-646-4980.
