EL CERRITO — Police continued to search Monday for the suspects in the Friday shooting of a bicyclist on the Ohlone Greenway, authorities said.

The 39-year-old man who was shot was hospitalized with a non-life threatening wound to his leg.

The shooting was reported at 3:06 p.m. Friday on the Ohlone Greenway, a popular pathway for pedestrians and bicyclists that runs between Berkeley and Richmond. Friday’s shooting happened in an area underneath BART tracks just north of Blake Street and not far from the Del Norte BART Station.

The man was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to a hospital.

Capt. Robert De La Campa said the victim was riding his bicycle when he came upon a man and a woman, walking in front of him. An argument ensued between the victim and the man, described as black, in his late teens to early twenties with a stocky build, and as wearing all black clothing.

The man produced a firearm during the argument and shot the victim, police said. Police are trying to confirm what the argument was about.

The gunman and the woman fled on foot before police arrived and were not located despite a complete search of the area.

The police investigation is on-going and anyone with information is encouraged to call the El Cerrito PD Tip Line at (510) 215-4414 ext. 40 or email investigations@ci.el-cerrito.ca.us.  and reference case #2020-00000789.
