Man shot after failed Oakland robbery

OAKLAND — A 46-year-old man was shot early Monday near Lake Merritt by a gunman who had unsuccessfully tried to rob him moments earlier, authorities said.

The man, who said he lived in Livermore, was in stable condition.

The attempted robbery and shooting happened about 12:15 a.m. Monday in the 3000 block of Lakeshore Avenue, south of MacArthur Boulevard.

The man told police he was walking to a relative’s home when a car pulled up and three masked me got out and demanded his property.  The man refused and after a brief struggle the three suspects got back into the vehicle.

Before they drove off one of the suspects shot the victim in the torso, authorities said.

Detailed descriptions of the suspects were not available.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $5,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the suspects.  Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3326 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
