OAKLAND — An 86-year-old man in a wheelchair who died Dec. 2 from injuries suffered in a fire at his East Oakland home was identified by the coroner’s office Tuesday as Calvin Boyce.
Boyce’s wife was also injured in the fire.
Boyce was found by firefighters in his wheelchair near a bedroom inside his burning house in the 1500 block of 48th Avenue after it caught fire about 1 a.m. Dec. 2.
He was taken to a hospital where he died a short time later.
His wife was hospitalized with smoke inhalation. It was not known if she is still hospitalized.
Officials said at the time that the fire started in the basement of the home but so far the cause has not been released.
