OAKLAND — A woman escaped injury Tuesday morning after her car was struck by an Amtrak train at an East Oakland crossing, authorities said.
Authorities said the woman was the only occupant of the vehicle.
The collision, which left the vehicle with damage to its rear end, happened about 8:39 a.m. at 98th and Railroad avenues.
Authorities said the vehicle was on the tracks when it was struck by Amtrak Capitol Corridor train 525 on its way from Sacramento to San Jose.
The impact knocked the vehicle for a distance, but the driver was able to get out on her own, authorities said.
No one on board the train was hurt.
Train service was delayed while police investigated.
The non-injury collision was the second time in less than two weeks that occupants of a vehicle had a close call with an Amtrak train.
About 6 p.m. Nov. 30 two people in a minivan that had been following their GPS ended up on the train tracks near Railroad and E streets in Union City. After being alerted by a resident in the area they were able to get out of the vehicle before it was hit by a train.
