CASTRO VALLEY — A man was found dead inside his home Monday afternoon and the death is being investigated as a homicide, authorities said Tuesday.

A man considered “person of interest” in the case has been detained, the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office said.

The dead man’s name and age have not been released, nor has the name of the man detained.

The man’s body, that bore injuries “consistent with a homicide,” was found about 3 p.m. Monday inside his home in the 19900 block of San Miguel Avenue, a primarily residential area, authorities said. Authorities have not said what kind of injuries they were and that an autopsy was scheduled.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Ray Kelly said the man had not been heard from and concerned friends had called the sheriff’s department to check on his well being. Deputies checking the perimeter of the home saw the man on the floor, made entry and found him dead.

A motive for the killing has not been released. Kelly said the person of interest was detained a short distance away from the home.

Kelly said investigators would be back in the neighborhood Tuesday conducting a canvass and looking for any video surveillance.

No other details were released.

Check back for updates.
