OAKLAND — A suspect has been arrested in the fatal July 22 shooting of a 24-year-old father of three and the wounding of another man he was with, authorities said Thursday.
The name of the man arrested is being withheld pending a review of the case by the district attorney’s office, authorities said. No other details about the arrest were released.
Authorities said the man is a suspect in the fatal shooting of Kaylen Tate, and the wounding of a 24-year-old friend of Tate’s, who were sitting in a car parked in the 2600 block of 66th Avenue about 10:24 a.m July 22.
Police have not released a motive for the shooting and have not said whether the suspect knew Tate or the other man, whose name has not been released.
Relatives have said Tate worked as a contractor for Amazon.
A GoFundMe account to raise money for Tate’s children has been established. As of Thursday morning, it had raised $1,445 toward a goal of $10,000. The site can be accessed at www.gofundme.com/f/in-loving-memory-of-kaylen-tate.
On the site, Tate is described as “always a leader and trying to set the right example with a big heart and goofy personality. A big family man.”
On social media postings, Tate’s father, Chuck Lounge, the lead singer with the group Tortilla Soup, said his group and others will perform at a fundraiser for his son’s children Friday at 8 p.m. at The Drying Shed restaurant, 402 Toyon Ave., San Jose.
