OAKLAND — A 17-year-old Vallejo boy died and an 18-year-old man was wounded in a shooting early Saturday in downtown Oakland, police said.

Police did not release the names of either victim but said the 18-year-old was a Hayward resident.

Police are trying to determine if the two knew each other.

The shooting happened at about 12:10 a.m. Saturday in the 1400 block of Franklin Street.

Authorities said the two victims had just left a live music and dance facility around the corner on 14th Street when they were shot. Both were taken to a hospital, where the 17-year-old died and the 18-year-old was in stable condition.

Police don’t have a motive yet for the shooting and did not say if the two were shot by someone in a vehicle or someone who confronted them on foot.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $15,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the shooter. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3821 or 510-238-7950 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
