OAKLAND — A 20-year-old man was seriously injured after the car he was riding in collided with a truck early Saturday morning in Oakland’s Rockridge shopping center, police said.

Authorities responded to the crash around 5 a.m. at the intersection of Chabot Road and College Avenue.

Initial reports indicated a black Honda Accord was traveling west on Chabot when it collided with a box truck, which was traveling north toward Berkeley. Witnesses told police the Honda may not have stopped completely at the stop sign before proceeding into the intersection.

The driver of the Accord, a 21-year-old woman, also suffered moderate injuries and was taken in stable condition to Highland Hospital. A 27-year-old also in the car was taken to a hospital in stable condition. The fourth passenger, a 19-year-old, was uninjured.

None of the individuals in the Accord were Oakland residents.

The driver of the box truck, a 64-year-old male, stayed on scene and cooperated with police, officers said.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation, it is unknown if alcohol or drugs were involved.
