SAN LORENZO — Anyone wanting a cup of coffee or other items from the Starbucks Coffee shop on Hesperian Boulevard Friday morning had to go elsewhere as the business was unable to open after a car crashed into it in the pre-dawn hours, authorities said.

The shop, at 15600 Hesperian Blvd., suffered major structural damage when the car crashed into the front of the building about 1 a.m. Friday, the Alameda County Fire Department said.

The car’s occupants fled before firefighters and deputies arrived on the scene, authorities said.

The business was closed when the crash happened. The car penetrated the building up to its front windshield.

It was not immediately known if the vehicle was stolen or if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

A damage figure was not available.

The coffee shop was scheduled to open at 3:30 a.m. Friday, but authorities said it would not re-open until the damage was evaluated by county building officials.

Check back for updates.
