Shootings wound two men in Oakland

OAKLAND — Two men were shot  Thursday night and Friday morning in different areas of Oakland, one while driving his vehicle and the other who said he was wounded at a gas station, authorities said.

Both men are expected to recover and the shootings are not believed to be related, authorities said.

The Friday shooting happened about 1:47 a.m. in the 4700 block of Bancroft Avenue in East Oakland.

A 37-year-old man told police he was driving his vehicle when someone in another vehicle began shooting at him. He was hit by the gunfire and crashed his vehicle, police said. The man was able to get his own transportation to a hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

A home and some parked cars were also hit by the gunfire but no one else was injured, police said. No motive has been determined yet for the shooting and no arrests have been made.

About 11:15 p.m. Thursday a 30-year-old man was dropped off at a hospital with at least one gunshot wound, police said.

The man, who police said was not not fully cooperative, told officers he was with some other people at the Seminary Gas and Food station, 6235 Seminary Ave., just south of Interstate 580, when someone began shooting..

He realized that he had been shot and was able to get someone in the group to take him to a  hospital  where he was in stable condition.

No one else was reported injured. Police don’t have a motive yet for the shooting and don’t know if the man shot was the intended target. No arrests have been made.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $5,000 in reward money in each shooting for information leading to the arrest of the suspects. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3426 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
