Man sought in shooting of Oakland woman, pistol-whipping of man

OAKLAND — A man is being sought in the Saturday morning shooting of a woman in West Oakland and the pistol-whipping of a man who was with her, police said Monday.

The woman was reported to be in stable condition with a gunshot wound to the head.

Authorities have not identified the suspect but said he is the ex-boyfriend of the wounded woman’s sister.

The violence was reported about 12:14 a.m. Saturday at a residence in the 1000 block of 26th Street.

Police said the woman and man had just entered the residence when the suspect rushed inside and confronted them.

A physical confrontation then occurred during which the man was pistol-whipped and the woman shot, police said. No other details about the shooting were released.

The suspect fled before police arrived.  He was soon identified and police have been actively seeking him since, Officer Johnna Watson said. She urged anyone with information about the whereabouts of the suspect to call police, saying they could remain anonymous.
