OAKLAND — Three juveniles and an adult detained in a stolen car Wednesday afternoon after a laptop robbery earlier in the day are being investigated for possible involvement in similar robberies in Oakland and other cities, authorities said Thursday.
The robbery happened about 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at a coffee shop in the 3300 block of Lakeshore Avenue. A woman sitting in an outdoor patio was forcibly robbed of her laptop. She was able to provide a description of one of the suspects and the getaway vehicle, a Toyota Camry.
The car was stopped by police about 2:42 p.m. near 79th Avenue and Rudsdale Street in East Oakland and an 18-year-old man and three juveniles, a girl from Berkeley and two boys from Oakland, were detained, police said The car turned out to have been stolen in Oakland.
The juveniles were later released pending further investigation, authorities said. The man, who was driving the car, was arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft pending further investigation.
Police said investigators are reviewing similar Oakland cases and are in contact with police in other cities to see if the four might be responsible for other robberies. Anyone with information about the four or other robberies is asked to call police at 510-238-3326.
