EMERYVILLE — A vehicle wreck Wednesday night on Interstate 80 near Powell Street left a woman dead and some other people with major injuries, the California Highway Patrol said Thursday.
The name of the woman killed was not immediately released.
CHP Officer Kris Borer said Thursday the woman and some other people were in an Acura about 10:43 p.m. Wednesday that lost control on I-80 west of Powell Street, veered into a guard rail and rolled down an embankment landing on its wheels. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
How many other occupants were injured was not immediately known, nor were their conditions.
The cause of the crash is under investigation. The CHP has not said if drugs or alcohol were a factor.
Multiple lanes were blocked while the CHP investigated and the roadway was cleaned up. All lanes were reopened by 1:12 a.m. Thursday.
