OAKLAND — A two-alarm fire Tuesday morning caused approximately $75,000 damage to a Mediterranean-style home in North Oakland,  officials said.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control by about 10:35 a.m. after it erupted around 9:53 a.m. at the single-family home on Bowling Drive near Country Club Drive, a few blocks from the Claremont Country Club, officials said.

No injuries were reported.

Fire officials said a second alarm was called because the entire home was filled with smoke when crews arrived. That kept firefighters from knowing initially how big the fire was.

None of the home’s residents were home when the blaze started, officials said. Battalion Fire Chief Demond Simmons said  the fire  started in the basement, but investigators have not determined what caused it.

More than 40 firefighters responded to the scene.

Crews completely blocked off Bowling Drive to fight the blaze.
