BERKELEY — A Richmond man has been arrested as a suspect in at least 10 burglaries of vehicles parked in different areas of Charles Lee Tilden Park, authorities said Thursday.
East Bay Regional Parks District Police Sgt. Tyrone Davis confirmed the suspect, Juan Antonio Rodriguez, 22, admitted to the break-ins, saying he sold the stolen items for cash.
The burglaries happened Tuesday and Wednesday in parking lots at different staging areas of the park. Windows were smashed or pried open and computers, cell phones, clothing, cash and other items were taken, police said.
Davis said video surveillance in the park helped police identify the suspect’s car and license plate and he was arrested at his home. He drove the same vehicle both days, authorities said. None of the stolen property has been recovered.
Davis said police know of 10 vehicles for sure that were burglarized and police are in the process of contacting the owners. There could be other victims as well, police said.
Rodriguez was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility and was being held in lieu of $20,000 bail.
Anyone with information about the burglaries is asked to call the park police tip line at 510-690-6549.
