OAKLAND — A replica pistol was recovered Tuesday morning after a 24-year-old man fled a vehicle on Interstate 880 and ran in and out of Oracle Arena, authorities said.

Authorities said the suspect is the same man who in October was in a stand-off in the same freeway area with California Highway Patrol officers and police as he sat on a van with a pistol that was also a replica.

The man’s name has not been released.

Tuesday’s incident began about 9:30 a.m. when the vehicle the man was driving was in a spin-out near the 66th Avenue on-ramp to northbound Interstate 880. The man fled from the vehicle and across Coliseum property into Oracle Arena with CHP officers and police in pursuit, officials said.

The man was detained about 9:53 a.m. after he ran back outside the arena. The replica pistol was recovered near where he was detained and he was taken to a hospital for psychiatric evaluation, authorities said.

Traffic on I-880 was briefly stopped while authorities dealt with the situation.

Authorities said the man was also detained for psychiatric evaluation last Oct. 30 after he parked a Ford van on the right shoulder of northbound I-880 north of 66th Avenue, climbed on top of the vehicle and began acting erratically, including brandishing a pistol.

He was eventually talked off the van by officers and a Sig Sauer P320 replica pellet gun was found tucked in his waistband, authorities said.

At the time the man was taken to a hospital for psychiatric evaluation.  No record could be immediately found if any criminal charges were ever filed against him.
