OAKLAND — An Oregon man charged with murder in the Dec. 19 stabbing death of a 59-year-old man outside the Greyhound Bus Station in the Uptown district is due to enter a plea Jan. 22, according to authorities and court documents.
Anthony Morales, 36, is charged in the killing of Eric McMillian, who authorities said he did not know. Morales has refused to talk to investigators and is being held without bail.
McMillian, a father and grandfather, was stabbed about 8:55 p.m. in the 2100 block of San Pablo Avenue outside the bus station. Police are not sure of a motive. McMillian was able to make it to his nearby home, where police were called. He died later at a hospital.
Police found Morales at the station waiting to board a bus to Oregon. According to court records, he had fresh blood on his arm and clothing, part of the deadly confrontation was captured on video cameras and the knife believed used in the attack was found in bushes outside the station.
A station security guard also told police he had a gotten into a fist fight several hours earlier in the day with Morales after he tried to board a bus without paying. The guard fought Morales off and he was not arrested, authorities said.
According to court records, Morales has two felony convictions in Santa Cruz County. He was imprisoned for a February 2011 conviction on second-degree burglary and given probation for an August 2001 charge of carrying a concealed firearm.
