OAKLAND — An apparent argument over money Wednesday evening in downtown left a 54-year-old woman in critical condition from stab wounds and a 70-year-old man under arrest in the attack, authorities said Thursday.
The argument started on a bus and continued when the two, who authorities said know each other, got off in the 1600 block of Broadway just before 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Police said the woman was stabbed multiple times and was taken to a hospital where she was in critical condition with internal and other injuries.
Patrons from a nearby coffee shop and other passers-by were able to subdue the man and detain him for police, authorities said.
The man was booked on suspicion of attempted murder.
Authorities said the investigation is continuing but it believed the man was angry with the woman over money owed him.
