WALNUT CREEK — A pick-up truck driver was arrested early Saturday on suspicion of driving under the influence after police say he caused a head-on collision that injured three people in a car, one critically.
The truck driver was identified by police as Justin Ross, 37, of Walnut Creek. Police said he was on probation for driving under the influence, so he will also face a charge of violating probation.
The collision happened about 12:36 a.m. Saturday on South Main Street near the Interstate 680 offramp not far from Kaiser Hospital.
Lt. Joe Donleavy said Ross was driving south on South Main when he veered into the northbound lane and collided head-on with a Honda Accord.
Three occupants of the Honda, all adults, were hospitalized. Donleavy said one of them was in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.
Ross was not injured and remained at the scene, authorities said.
The police investigation kept South Main closed until about 7 a.m.
Police are asking that anyone who may have witnessed the collision call police at 925-943-5844.
