OAKLAND –Three residents of a West Oakland duplex were displaced by a fire Monday morning but none were injured, officials said.
The fire started about 4:30 a.m. Monday in the 2500 block of Filbert Street across the street from McClymonds High School. When firefighters arrived, bright flames were roaring out the front of the two-story structure.
Three women who live at the duplex were able to get out on their own, officials said. They were being assisted by the Red Cross.
More than two dozen firefighters controlled the blaze within 45 minutes, officials said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation but it is believed to have started in the kitchen of one of the apartments. Damage was estimated to be at least $300,000.
