SAN LEANDRO — A 30-year-old transient has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon in a hatchet attack last week of another transient, authorities said Tuesday.
The suspect, Trevor Vee, 30, whose last address was in Berkeley, is also being held for violating parole. He is being prosecuted under “three strikes” statutes and is being held without bail pending a Nov. 13 court appearance where he is scheduled to enter a plea.
Vee is charged in the Nov, 1 hatchet attack of another transient in the 1600 block of Alvarado Street. Police said the two men were acquainted with each other and had a verbal altercation that ended with the victim being hit in the head with a hatchet. Police are not sure what the men argued about.
The victim suffered a fractured skull and a large laceration to his forehead, authorities said. He is still hospitalized.
Police were able to identify Vee as the attacker through information supplied by the victim and video surveillance from a nearby business of the confrontation. Lt. Isaac Benabou said.
Vee was arrested early in the morning on Nov. 2 at a gas station in the 1100 block of East 14th Street.
