Man shot in East Oakland early Monday

OAKLAND — A 21-year-old man was shot multiple times early Monday in the Maxwell Park area, authorities said.

He was later reported to be in stable condition at a hospital recovering from at least two gunshot wounds, authorities said.

The shooting happened about 1:42 a.m. Monday in the 4700 block of Fleming Avenue, a mainly residential area. Numerous shots were fired, causing a gunshot detection system to activate.

Despite his wounds, the man was able to make it to the 5500 block of Fleming Avenue, where police and paramedics were called.

A motive for the shooting was under investigation. Police have not yet said if the man was shot by someone in a passing vehicle or by someone who confronted him outside on the street. No arrests have been announced.
