OAKLAND — Two people were killed in separate East Oakland shootings within a 30-minute span Thursday night, according to police.
The first instance was reported at 8:41 p.m. when police dispatchers got word of a shooting near 85th Avenue and International Boulevard, Oakland police Officer John O’Reilly said.
An initial investigation determined that a 41-year-old man was visiting a home in the area and got into an argument with an unidentified person, police said. The man was shot during the argument, and the suspected shooter fled before police arrived.
The wounded man was rushed to the hospital but died a short time later, police said. He has been identified as Oakland resident Gerald Easterling.
The second shooting was reported just after 9 p.m., when officers responded to a ShotSpotter report of four shots fired in the 4300 block of Fleming Avenue near High Street.
Police found a 20-year-old Oakland man suffering from gunshot wounds, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Details on any motive or suspect information were not immediately available.
The shootings marked the 69th and 70th homicides investigated by Oakland police this year. At the same point in 2016, 78 homicides had been investigated.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information leading to arrests in these cases.
