OAKLAND — A 36-year-old man who was shot Tuesday morning in East Oakland told police he was driving to go fishing when he was struck, authorities said.
The man told police that he was in his SUV about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday on his way to go fishing when he stopped in the 1900 block of Foothill Boulevard near San Antonio Park.
He said while he was stopped he heard gunfire and realized he had been wounded in the back. His vehicle also had bullet holes.
The man was able to drive to the 2500 block of Foothill where he called police. He was treated there before being taken to a hospital.
Investigators plan to interview the man to get more details about the shooting, to determine a motive and to try to find out if he was the target of the shooter or was hit by stray rounds. No arrests have been made.
