OAKLAND — Two men were killed and a woman was injured in separate East Oakland shootings about an hour apart, police said Tuesday.

About 11:11 p.m. Monday, gunfire killed a 36-year-old man and wounded his 34-year-old wife, both San Leandro residents, police said. The two were outside in the 10000 block of MacArthur Boulevard when the shooting happened nearby, police said.

Authorities pronounced the man dead at the scene. The woman remained in stable condition Tuesday morning at a hospital, police said.

Police were still trying to determine the motive in that shooting and said they do not know if the man and woman were the intended targets or hit by stray bullets.

Police said they recovered dozens of shell casings from the area. It was the 48th homicide investigated by Oakland police in 2022.

The second of the two shootings happened about 12:11 a.m. Tuesday. A 38-year-old man was shot inside a home in the 11000 block of Novelda Drive in the Sobrante Park area. Police said it was his residence and that they have not determined a motive. No arrests were made.

That killing brought to 49 the number of homicides investigated by the Oakland Police Department this year. The California Highway Patrol also has investigated four homicides on freeways within the city limits. A year ago at this time, Oakland police had investigated 57 homicides.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $15,000 in reward money for information leading to an arrest in the double shooting, and $10,000 for information leading to an arrest in the Novelda Drive homicide. Police can be contacted at 510-238-3821 and Crime Stoppers can be reached at 510-777-8572.
