OAKLAND — A 20-year-old man was fatally shot Wednesday night in West Oakland, authorities said.

The name of the man, an Oakland resident, was not immediately released.

The man was shot about 7:40 p.m. outside in the 1300 block of Campbell Street. He was taken to a hospital where he later died. Police have not yet said if the man lived in the area of the shooting or in another part of the city.

A motive for the shooting has not been released by police and no arrests have been announced.

The killing is the seventh homicide investigated by Oakland police this year. Last year at this time police had investigated ten homicides in the city. The California Highway Patrol is also investigating a fatal shooting on an Oakland freeway earlier this year.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the shooter. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3821 or 510-238-7950 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
