OAKLAND — An East Oakland marriage center was badly damaged Thursday when a stolen SUV being chased by Alameda County sheriff’s deputies crashed into it, authorities said.
The Perfect Marriage Center, 6101 International Blvd, was not open and no one was inside when the Dodge SUV crashed through a front wall and came more than halfway inside about 2 p.m. Thursday.
The suspected SUV driver tried to run away but was arrested after a confrontation with deputies during which they used a Taser, authorities said. The name of the 39-year-old man was not released.
The SUV had been reported stolen earlier Thursday in Oakland and was spotted by sheriff’s deputies who pursued it.
The center’s website gave no indication there would be any cancellation of planned events.
