WALNUT CREEK — Four men are being sought in the Saturday evening grab-and-run theft of numerous iPhones and laptops from an Apple Store, police said Monday.

The exact number of items taken and  their value was not released but police said the loss was thousands of dollars.

The thefts happened about 5:40 p.m. Saturday at the store at 1200 South Main St., in Broadway Plaza. The store opened in July after moving from its previous location across the street.

Lt. Sean Conley said  a black Mercedes SUV pulled up outside the store and the suspects ran inside, grabbed phones and Macbooks and ran back to the SUV which drove off.

No weapons were seen and no injuries were reported. Police are reviewing video surveillance in an effort to identify the suspects.

Police did not say if they think the theft is related to a similar one Wednesday at an Apple Store in Corte Madera in Marin County where five suspects were involved.

Before moving to its new location, the Walnut Creek Apple Store was targeted twice by suspects in similar thefts last year, once in May and another time in April but authorities said it is too early to say if the thefts are related.

Anyone with information about Saturday’s theft is asked to call police at 925-935-6400.

Check back for updates.
