FREMONT  — A suspect was arrested Thursday evening in the stabbing earlier in the day of a man at the Warm Springs BART Station, authorities said Friday.

Police said 21-year-old Joshua Fecker, a transient, was taken into custody at the Richmond BART Station about 5:41 p.m Thursday after he was recognized and detained by a BART police officer who recognized him from surveillance images that had been released to the public.

After he was interviewed by BART detectives, it was determined Fecker was the suspect in the attack, police said.

Fecker was booked at Santa Rita Jail on suspicion of attempted murder.  He is being held without bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Monday.

Fecker is suspected of stabbing a 39-year-old man, another transient, about 2:18 a.m. Thursday on an access road at the Warm Springs Station.  The man suffered wounds to his chest and buttocks and is expected to recover.

Police have not released a motive in the attack and have not said if the men knew each other before the violent encounter.

Check back for updates.
