Motorcyclist dies in Oakland collision

OAKLAND — A 48-year-old Antioch man died Monday night after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a car in West  Oakland and police are seeking the vehicle’s driver who ran away from the scene, authorities said.

The Alameda County Coroner’s Office on Tuesday identified the motorcyclist as Richard Wiltz.

The collision happened at about 5:08 p.m. Monday  at the intersection of 24th and Market streets.

Police said Wiltz was riding a Kawasaki EX250 motorcycle westbound on 24th Street when it was involved in a collision with a purple BMW 650i that was going southbound on Market Street.

Wiltz was ejected off his motorcycle onto the roadway. He was taken to a hospital where he later died.

The driver of the BMW fled the scene on foot, leaving the vehicle behind, police said.

Police have not yet said if the BMW driver was a man or woman.

Police said it is not known if alcohol was a factor in the collision.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the BMW driver.  Anyone with information may call police traffic investigators at 510-777-8570 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
