Sacramento shooting suspect arrested after vehicle chase to Oakland

OAKLAND — A shooting suspect was arrested Sunday night after a more than 80-mile-long high speed chase from Sacramento to West Oakland involving multiple law enforcement agencies, authorities said.

Sacramento police said the suspect, an adult male whose name or age were not released, was wanted for a shooting at about 9:45 p.m. Sunday in the 2700 block of Forrest Street in Sacramento.  Police said officers located an unoccupied vehicle that had been shot at.

A police air unit spotted the suspect’s vehicle, a white Ford F150 pick-up truck with an extended cab, and when ground units tried to stop the truck it kept going, police said.

The man  got onto Interstate 80 with officers in pursuit. The chase was turned  over to the California Highway Patrol which eventually chased the truck to the East Bay, at speeds sometimes exceeding 80 mph.

The truck drove on Interstate 680 and Highway 24 and got off the freeway in the Berkeley hills, speeding through city streets until it drove into Oakland where the driver crashed into another vehicle in the area of 27th Street and Northgate Avenue about 11:20 p.m. and the suspect was arrested,
