SAN LEANDRO — Two suspects in a Friday morning road rage shooting on Interstate 580 were arrested after the un-injured victim followed them to a residence, the California Highway Patrol said.
The names of the man and woman arrested were not released and authorities did not say if they actually lived where they were arrested.
The shooting happened at about 6 a.m. Friday in the eastbound lanes of I-580 between 106th Avenue and Interstate 238, authorities said.
The suspects were in a gray Volkswagen sedan and apparently were angered by the way a man driving a black Mercedes sedan merged onto the freeway from the 106th Avenue on-ramp, CHP Officer Gabe Walters said.
Two gunshots fired from the Volkswagen hit the Mercedes but did not injure the driver, Walters said.
The Mercedes driver followed the Volkswagen as it continued on the freeways then exited and drove to an apartment complex in San Leandro near the Walmart Store, 15555 Hesperian Blvd.
The Mercedes driver then drove to the Walmart parking lot where he called the CHP, told them what had happened and where the suspects were, Walters said.
The CHP arrested the suspects at the apartment with the assistance of San Leandro police.
The shooting remains under investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed what happened is asked to call the Castro Valley CHP office at 510-581-9028.
