OAKLAND — Two men were shot Friday in Oakland, one while driving his car and the other who told police he was wounded by someone trying to rob him, authorities said Saturday.

Both men are expected to recover.

The shooting of the motorist happened about 9:30 p.m. Friday in the 700 block of 29th Street in West Oakland.

A 45-year-old man told police he was driving west on 29th Street when someone began shooting at him from outside his vehicle. He was hit more than once and crashed into a parked car, authorities said.

The man was able to get a ride from someone else to a hospital, where he was in stable condition. Police don’t have a motive yet for the shooting, and no arrests have been made.

About 3 p.m. Friday, a 28-year-old man was dropped off at a hospital suffering from a gunshot wound.

The man told police he had been in the area of the 1400 block of Madison Street in downtown when he was confronted by a man with a gun who demanded his property. The man told police he got into a struggle with the would-be robber and was shot.

The man told police the suspect fled without taking anything from him and that he was able to get a ride from another person to the hospital. He was in stable condition.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $5,000 in reward money in each shooting for information leading to the arrest of the suspects. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 510-238-3426 or 510-238-3326 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
