OAKLAND — A man was found fatally stabbed Friday morning in West Oakland, authorities said.
Police did not immediately identify the man but said he was in his 20s.
The man was discovered around 6:50 a.m. Friday in the 1500 block of Ninth Street, a residential area between Peralta and Chestnut streets. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident was initially reported to police as a possible shooting, but it was later determined the man had been stabbed several times, authorities said.
Police have not determined a motive yet for the stabbing and have not made any arrests. Streets in the area were shut down while police canvassed for witnesses and video surveillance.
The killing is the 42nd homicide investigated by Oakland police this year and the first in Oakland since July 2. Last year at this time police had investigated 44 homicides in the city.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the suspect. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3821 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
