ALAMEDA — A reported robbery Saturday night at a store left a man shot to death and a store clerk arrested in the killing, authorities said Monday.

In a statement released Monday, police did not identify either the clerk arrested or the man killed, or the store where it happened.

But according to the department’s daily activity log and Alameda County jail records, the suspect is Wenyong Huang, 26, who listed his occupation on jail records as gas station manager.

He was arrested on suspicion of murder, willful discharge of a firearm in a grossly negligent manner and carrying a concealed firearm, according to jail records. He is being held without bail at Santa Rita Jail and is scheduled to be arraigned in court on Tuesday.

In a statement Monday, police said that on Saturday night officers responded to a a call of a robbery in the 1700 block of Webster Street.

The statement said that “upon their arrival, responding officers learned a store employee shot another adult male who was inside the store attempting to steal merchandise.”

The statement said the wounded man was taken to a local hospital but “ultimately succumbed to his injuries.”

The statement said “During the initial investigation, the store employee was cooperative, but based on the totality of the circumstances, coupled with store surveillance, was ultimately arrested for the homicide.”

Police said further details would be provided when the investigation permits.
