OAKLAND — A 14-year-old girl was arrested Monday night at the West Oakland BART station in the suspected robbery of a duffel bag from a passenger on board a train, authorities said.
About 6:51 p.m. Monday a BART police officer saw the victim, a 27-year-old Oakland woman, chasing the girl at the station and intervened, eventually detaining the suspect.
Authorities said the woman told police she and the suspect, who she did not know, had entered the same train car at the Fruitvale station. During the train trip, the girl forcibly grabbed the woman’s duffel bag, and attempted to escape once the train got to the West Oakland station, the woman said.
The woman did not require any medical treatment.
The girl, an Oakland resident, was booked at Alameda County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of robbery. Police also issued her a prohibition order that will prevent her from using the BART system for some time.
