HAYWARD — Two 13-year-old Oakland boys were arrested Tuesday night in the theft of a 65-year-old woman’s tablet computer as she rode on a BART train, officials said Wednesday.
Officials said the woman was on the last last car of a Warm Sprints bound train about 7:10 p.m. Tuesday, sitting near the door and reading her Amazon Fire tablet when one of the two suspects snatched the device from her hands before both youths got off the train at the Hayward Station. The woman was not injured, officials said.
The woman reported the theft to BART police when she arrived at Fremont, where she resides, BART spokesman James Allison said.
BART police later observed two youths who matched the description of the suspects near the bus zone at the Hayward Station and detained them.
The woman returned to the scene and identified the two as those involved in the theft. They were arrested on suspicion of grand theft from the person, authorities said. The tablet was recovered.
The boys were given citations to appear in Juvenile Court and released to their mothers, officials said.
