OAKLAND — The death of a man whose body was found Tuesday morning in an East Oakland slough is now being investigated as a homicide, authorities said Wednesday.

The man’s name still has not been released.

Police have not yet said how they believe the man was killed or if the body had any trauma, but said the death is being investigated as a homicide.

No motive has been released and no arrests have been announced.

The man was found about 8:39 a.m. Tuesday in the waters of the East Creek Slough, south of the 4800 block of Oakport Street.

The slough leads into a part of San Francisco Bay and its entry point is not far from a canal that connects the Oakland Estuary to the Bay.

The death is the 10th homicide being investigated by Oakland police this year. Last year at this time police had investigated 17 homicides.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the man’s killer.  Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3821 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.

Check back for updates.
