OAKLAND — A 30-year-old woman shot Sunday night inside her West Oakland home was an unintended victim hit by a stray bullet fired by someone outside in the area, police said Friday.
The woman was initially listed in critical condition but her condition has since been upgraded to stable and she remains hospitalized, authorities said. Her name has not been released by police.
The woman was shot about 7:20 p.m. Sunday as she was inside her home in the 1200 block of Wood Street.
Police said there was some kind of confrontation outside on a street in the area that resulted in shots being fired. Investigators have not said exactly where they believe the shots were fired from. The woman was standing by a window when a stray bullet hit her in the upper body.
No other injuries were reported in the neighborhood and the shooter fled before police arrived.
Investigators are asking residents in the area who have video surveillance cameras to check the recordings for at least two hours prior to the shooting and two hours afterward.
The reward for information leading to the arrest of the shooter has been increased from $5,000 to $6,500. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3426 or Crime Stoppers of Oakland at 510-777-8572.
