OAKLAND — A 3-year-old boy is reportedly in stable condition after being injured in a shooting late Wednesday night in Oakland, police said.
The shooting occurred just before 10 p.m. on the 1600 block of 80th Avenue in Oakland, police said. A group of people had gathered on the street for a memorial service for a previous homicide victim when someone opened fire in their direction, police said.
The boy was in a car, and one of the bullets went through the window. The bullet fragmented, and the bullet shrapnel hit the boy, police said. The boy may have also been hit by pieces of glass.
Other vehicles were also hit in the shooting, but police have not located any other shooting victims.
Police are investigating the shooting and working to identify a motive.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact Oakland police at 510-238-3426 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572. Police are offering a reward up to $5,000 for information that results in an arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the shooting.
