OAKLAND — Four children and two adults were displaced by a fire at their East Oakland duplex Tuesday morning, officials said.
A firefighter suffered minor burns when some embers fell inside his protective jacket but he was treated and released at the scene, officials said.
The fire started about 4:23 a.m. Tuesday in the upstairs unit of the two story residence in the 5200 block of International Boulevard.
No one was at home and firefighters were told the residents were on vacation, Battalion Fire Chief Dino Torres said. The unit suffered major damage, Torres said.
The people displaced lived in the unit below, which sustained water and other damage.
Firefighters brought the fire under control at 4:56 a.m.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and a damage figure has not been determined, officials said.
The ages of those displaced were not available. They were being assisted by the Red Cross.
