OAKLAND — Five juveniles, ages 14 to 17,  suspected in an attempted carjacking at the MacArthur BART station Monday morning were arrested by BART police, authorities said Tuesday.

A 14-year-old girl was arrested Monday night in an attempted robbery at the West Oakland BART station.

Authorities said about 11:47 a.m. Monday a woman was confronted on the first floor of the MacArthur Station parking structure by the suspects, one of whom apparently had a replica gun. They attempted to carjack her 2001 Mercedes Benz sedan but for some reason they were not able to get it started and fled on foot into the station and onto a Richmond-bound train, BART spokesman Chris Filippi said. The woman was not hurt.

Filippi said the train was held at the station and it was searched by BART and Oakland police who eventually arrested four boys and a girl. The replica handgun was also found.

The suspects were booked at Alameda County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of carjacking and conspiracy to commit a crime.

The West Oakland station attempted robbery happened about 6:47 p.m. Monday.

Filippi said a 14-year-old girl  approached a woman in the station bus zone and first asked to use her cell phone. She then attempted to steal the phone by force but the woman was able to maintain her grip on the phone and go into the station where police were called.

The girl was arrested soon after by BART police. The woman had a cut on her index finger but no other injuries. The girl was booked at juvenile hall on suspicion of attempted robbery.

The two cases are not related, BART said.
