OAKLAND — A man found dead Saturday in an Oakland Estuary channel off Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline was identified Thursday by the coroner’s office as Tariku Ayalew, 39, of Oakland.
His body was seen by a jet skier about 11:41 a.m. Saturday and eventually removed from the water, which is within an area known as Arrowhead Marsh by firefighters.
The case is being investigated by East Bay Regional Park District police and a cause of death has not been released.
Police are trying to determine how Ayalew got into the water, but at this time there is no reason to suspect any foul play, EBRPD Sgt. Giorgio Chevez said.
