OAKLAND — The names of two men fatally shot in East Oakland July 2 were released by police Tuesday.

The men, who were shot about 11:45 p.m. July 2 in the 1200 block of 87th avenue, were identified as Jose Wilson, 29, who lived near where the shooting happened, and Rafael Cervantes, 20, of Antioch.  A 23-year-old Antioch man was also shot and is recovering, authorities said.

Wilson died at the scene and Cervantes the next morning.

Police said the Antioch men were acquaintances who had come to Oakland to see Wilson. Police have not said why they wanted to see Wilson or how they may have known him.

All three were shot by someone who approached them on the street. A motive still has not been determined and no arrests have been made.

In a GoFundMe account opened for Cervantes’ family, a relative wrote “he lived his life to make others happy.  He was one of the most loving, caring, generous people I know.”  As of Tuesday  $4,372 had been raised toward a goal of $25,000.  Those wishing to contribute can go to
