OAKLAND — A pit bull repeatedly bit a man who was also punched several times by the dog’s owner during a robbery Tuesday morning in the Uptown area, police said Wednesday.
The 41-year-old robbery victim remained hospitalized Wednesday recovering from numerous bite wounds as well as cuts and bruises that left him covered in blood, authorities said.
The violent robbery happened about 6 a.m. Tuesday in the 2700 block of Telegraph Avenue.
The man was walking when the robber and dog approached him.
The robber ordered the dog to attack the man who was bitten numerous times on different parts of his body, police said.
While the victim was being bitten, the robber also punched him several times with his fists before taking the victim’s wallet and other personal items and fleeing with the dog.
The robber is described as a black man, 30 to 40, about 5 feet 8 and 180 pounds with short hair and no facial hair. No description of the dog was immediately released.
Police could not recall a similar robbery where the victim was actually bitten by a dog of any kind.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $5,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the robber. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3326 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
